Overview

The Physical Therapist provides direct patient care in inpatient and/or outpatient areas of BronxCare evaluating and managing patients with physical disability due to illness or injury. In collaboration with other health care personnel, the Physical Therapist assesses patients’ physical and functional condition, develops and implements individualized treatment plans, administers physical therapy treatments to relieve pain and improve patients' mobility, provides education to patient, family, and caregivers, and supervises the work of physical therapy assistants.

Responsibilities

- Ability to state indications/contradictions; ability to demonstrate use of modality; Must be able perform evaluation or treatment with acceptable standard of care as determined by another licensed professional (100% of the time.)

- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the ages of the patients serviced.

- Demonstrate knowledge of all principles of growth and development over the life span.

- Ability to access data reflective of the patients status, and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

- Pediatric: Therapist must demonstrate knowledge and use of Rehab equipment appropriate to the ages of pediatric patients, e.g., one pound versus five pound weight.  Must be able to engage the child through age appropriate play for the purpose of therapy.

- Adolescent:  Therapist must assess the adolescents’ capacity to understand the purpose of the therapy and the patient’s ability to cooperate.

- Adult:  Therapist must be able to explain the treatment and the benefits of adhering to the treatment plan.  Stress patient education appropriate with the patient’s age.

- Geriatrics:  Therapist must be aware of the effects of aging and be able to adjust treatments appropriate to the patients’ capacity.

 

Qualifications

2-4 years of experience in direct care physical therapy in the last 10 years

New York State License as a Physical Therapist

Master's Degree required
