Overview

Contributes to the development of Targeted Outreach strategies and strategic plan, assists with non-traditional site recruitment, conducts all distribution activities, and assists with service tracking and reporting (data entry). Serves as a member of the program Advisory Board

Responsibilities

- Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees. Interacts professionally, courteously, and appropriately with patients, visitors and other employees. Behaves in a manner consistent with maintaining and furthering a positive public perception of Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center and its employee.

 


- Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department. Contribution and participation includes data collection, analysis, implementation of and compliance with risk management and claims activities, support of and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, consistent adherence to the specific rules and regulations of the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center (a) Safety and Security Policies, (b) Risk Management: Incident and Occurrence Reporting, (c) Infection Control Policies and Procedures and (d) Patient and Customer Service.

 


- Recruit non-traditional venues (bars, barber shops, hair/nail salons, liquor stores, hotels/motels, restaurants, and coffee shops) in high priority neighborhoods to distribute safer sex products to their patrons.

 


- Ensure that any venues that are food service establishment only be recruited as distribution sites if they are in good standing with NYC DOHMH restaurant inspections.

 


- Visits non-traditional venues for material delivery, restocking fish bowls/dispensers, and brief check-in with appropriate venue personnel as needed.

 


- Conduct event-based distribution – Targeted outreach to distribute safer sex products in venues frequented by members of the priority populations for recreation purposes or receipt of services, including private or commercial sex-on-site locations, areas associated with drug use, clubs and bars, etc.

 


- Attend Health Fair – interactive distribution event intended to promote the availability and correct use of safer sex products to a large audience

 


- Conduct outreach/distribution activities in public space to meet targeted populations where they are at” in order to distribute and promote the use of safer sex products, as well as areas where priority populations are known to reside or congregate (I. e. Laundromat, Parks, Nail Salons, Barber Shops, etc.)

 


- Collect information required to be documented and reported for every service delivered in the Electronic System for HIV/AIDS Reporting and Evaluation (eSHARE).

 


- Assist with evaluation activities, attend appropriate training, and assist with identifying suitable locations.

Qualifications

- Minimum 12 months experience as HIV/AIDS peer worker/outreach worker.

 

- Peer Counselor Certification - HIV related peer counselor certification (Policy Requirement)

 

- H. S. Diploma or G.E.D (Rquired)

 

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with health care professionals, providers, clients, and others. (Rquired)


- Approach client care from a strength based perspective and respect client self-determination. (Rquired)


- Ability to use motivational strategies to promote healthy lifestyles. (Rquired)


- Strong knowledge of relevant community resources and how to access them. (Rquired)


- Awareness of consumer perspectives and ability/willingness to engage diverse populations. (Rquired)


- Ability to work flexible hours as required by program and staffing needs. Knowledge of public transportation system to engage in extensive fieldwork. (Rquired)
