Overview

The BronxCare PPA (Perioperative Patient Associate) at Operating Room functions as a member of the procedural care team, while under the direct supervision and direction of the procedural registered nurses and surgical technologists. In this role, the Patient Care Assistant will provide and maintain a safe, neat, and clean patient environment.

Responsibilities

Respond to pages to assist with procedure room turnover, which includes, but is not limited to cleaning equipment, tables, carts, patient monitoring equipment, hard surfaces, patient transfer or positioning items, removing and replacing used
suction canisters, and removing all trash, soiled linen, and full sharps containers. Call anesthesia tech for anesthesia turnover as directed.  Assist with setting up the procedure room for the next procedure, which includes, but is not limited to setting up equipment, gathering supplies, placing clean linen on beds.  Clean medical equipment, OR beds in procedure rooms, patient positioning and transferring devices, stretchers/wheelchairs, and hard surfaces including, but not limited to counters, tray tables, and flooring. Check for the integrity of sterile instruments and trays. Transport sterile instruments and trays to and from sterile processing if needed. Answer the phone, make phone call as directed by the charge nurse. Assist the Charge RN with the clerical duties as assigned. Run front deck errands

Qualifications

One-year job experience in a hospital or clinic.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
• Experience as a nurse’s assistant preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
