Responsibilities

1. CUSTOMER PATIENT FOCUS


• Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees. Interacts professionally, courteously, and appropriately with patients, visitors and other employees. Behaves in a manner consistent with maintaining and furthering a positive public perception of BronxCare Health System and its employees.

 

 

 

2. CUSTOMER PATIENT FOCUS: Utilizes the principles of leadership established by the AONE and ANA


• Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department. Contribution and participation includes data collection, analysis, implementation of and compliance with risk management and claims activities, support of and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, consistent adherence to the specific rules and regulations of the BronxCare Health System (a) Safety and Security Policies, (b) Risk Management: Incident and Occurrence reporting, (c) Infection Control Policies and Procedures and (d) Patient and Customer Service.

 

 

 

3. LEADERSHIP RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT: The ability to communicate clearly and concisely with internal and external customers, establishes and maintains relationships, and facilitates constructive interactions with individuals


• In conjunction with the Chairman of Surgery and VP/CNO when applicable, establishes policy, systems and structures that support interdisciplinary collaboration. 

 

• Coordinates with Neurosurgical vendors and the Operating Room on supplies and equipment. 

 

• Applies and communicates effective and principle-based labor based mediation, negotiation and dispute resolution strategies.

 

 


4. LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: The ability to inspire individuals and organizational excellence, create a shared vision and successfully manage change to attain the organization’s strategic ends and successful performance.

 

• Demonstrates congruence between leadership and surgeons behavior and values and beliefs about patient care. 

 

• Management of on call schedule and Operating Room scheduling process for Neurosurgery.

 

• Creates, structure, and implements planned evidence based change through strategic vision, risk taking and effective communication. 

 

• Tracking of all Neurosurgey procedures; along with providing guidance on coding and billing. 


• Assist with managing budget for defined area; provides cost-effective use of resources, to provide care. 

 

• Participates in and represents the Department of Surgery and Nursing at corporate administrative professional forums and meetings. 

 

• Ensures compliance with standards of regulatory agencies, including The Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and New York State and the New York City Department of Health. 

 

• Participates in activities which promote own professional growth and development. Is a member of a local or national nursing organization. 


• Demonstrates expert application of advance nursing practice as a role model and consistently promotes the professional image of nursing in demeanor, appearance, attitude and behaviors. 

 

• Facilitates teamwork at all times, addresses issues and concerns with peers, subordinates and supervises with a positive problem solving approach. Is approachable and cooperative. 

 

• Assists in educating of Nursing on General Surgery and Neurosurgery protocols and criteria, as they pertain to patient care. 

 

 

 

5. PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE: The ability to design and implement strategies that maximize foster high ethical standards in meeting the organization’s vision, mission and goals. Describe responsibility:


• Provide primary care for the General Surgery/Neurosurgery Clinic under the supervision of collaborating physician.

 
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary program to meet the needs of individual patients and the needs of the overall General Surgery/Neurosurgery population. 


• Orders customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include referral to consulting physicians per customary pattern of the attending MD or with the collaborating physician. 


• Formulates the plan of care, along with the attending physician, patient and family, based on expected goals of care. 


• Works collaboratively with the attending physician, consulting physician(s), and other disciplines to identify, develop, and implement an appropriate plan of care that maximizes individual patient/family preference and enhances quality, access, and cost effective outcomes. 


• Evaluates treatment and health care plans for effectiveness and modifies per clinical standards and practice protocols. 


• Educates patient and family to facilitate and promote healthy adjustment to new or changed health patterns. 


• Participate in weekly staff meetings, regular supervision meetings and in case management meetings as needed. 


• Participate in staff development. 


• Establish and maintain professional contact with the Bronx Care Health System, community medical providers and other community organizations promoting health and social well-being. 


• Perform other activities as shall be deemed appropriate in assuring services to patients and to support the positions responsibilities.

• Assist in development of comprehensive performance improvement initiatives that integrate staff competencies, work environment and leadership behavior. 

 

• Promotes an ethical climate that addresses accountability for the safety and welfare of the patients.

• In conjunction with PCM, creates patient care processes that integrate the recommendations of regulatory requirements and evidenced based practice.

• Understands the principles of corporate compliance and creates departmental awareness.

• Creates and adheres to a systematic process to evaluate the ethics of care within the General Surgery/Neurosurgery Clinic.

 

 

 

6. ACCOUNTABILITY/WORK ETHIC

• Demonstrates an understanding of the organizations fire/safety plan, emergency preparedness plan and patient safety goals.

 

• Wears employee ID badge at all times. 

 

• Demonstrates flexibility in schedule to accommodate organization needs. 

 

• Accepts special projects as determined by VP/CNO, Patient Care Services. 

 

 

 

7. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITY
• Assesses the individual and family health status

 

• Secures health histories, performs physical examinations and screening tests. 

 

• Accurate recording and tracking of clinical and statistical data. 

 

• Advises and counsels patient about their physical and mental health. 

 

• Provides anticipatory guidance re: nutrition, dental health, contraception, smoking, alcohol, drug use hygiene. 

 

• Contributes to the health education of individuals and groups and applies methods designed to increase each person’s motivation to assume responsibility for his own health care. 

 

• Plans and implements routine care practices in collaboration with medical and other health professionals.

 

• Conduct comprehensive home visits to patients who are referred to the asthma referral home visit program 

 

• Identifies and helps in the management of social, economic and environmental influences affecting the patient and his family. 

 

• Assesses and manages common acute and chronic illnesses in accordance with protocols. 

 

• Prescribes selective medications under standing orders of the Physician. 

 

• Assists in coordinating and planning referral for patients with complex medical problems. 

 

• Assists in the establishment of policies and procedures relevant to comprehensive, longitudinal care. 

 

• Participates in outreach programs and screening programs for case identification and follow-up and community health education. 

 

• Within the team, uses principles of group development to better understand her partners and to make the team more efficient.

Qualifications

- Graduate of an accredited Nurse program, and licensed and currently registered as a Professional Nurse in the state of New York 

 

- New York RN Licensure – Current Registration

 

- Membership in Professional Organization

 

- Bachelor’s in Nursing Healthcare

 

- Master’s in Science

 

- Decision making and problem solving.


- Works as a team player.


- Demonstrates respect and professionalism in all interactions, communicates effectively.
