Overview

Works with the Associate Directors of Pharmacy Operation in coordinating the daily operation of the Pharmacy Department.

Responsibilities

Supervises the performance of certain tasks which may be carried out by staff members; under supervision, such as: drug repacking, dose bin filling, control drug preparation, billing record keeping, unpacking orders, compounding of drugs, etc. Supervises the pharmaceutical services in accordance with the guidelines and regulations of the JCAHO, The U.S. Department of Treasury-Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, The State Board of Pharmacy, U.S. Department of Justice-Drug Enforcement Administration and other regulatory agencies, including the written Policies and Procedures of the BronxCare Health System and Department of Pharmacy. To oversee the performance of certain tasks that either, pharmacist or pharmacy intern, under supervision, may carry out. This includes but is not limited to preparing of TPN solutions, Heparin bags, injectable chemotherapy and antibiotics. T Works with Associate Directors in implementing an orientation program for new staff and training programs as described in the Department Policy Manual Assesses manpower requirements in each pharmacy location and addresses the immediate needs. Supervises the inspection of pharmaceutical supplies on all services in accordance with the standards of JCAHO and maintenance of necessary documentation. Responsible for circulation and documenting communication between staff and pharmacy management. Coordinates the manufacturing and repackaging function within the Pharmacy and assures documentation and adherence to BronxCare Health System Pharmacy policy and New York State Law. Works with Associate Directors in implementing an orientation program for new staff and training programs as described in the Department Policy Manual. Supervises staff pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, ancillary and clerical staff in the daily operation of the department. 

Qualifications

Five (5) years pharmacy experience in either retail or hospital pharmacy, including some supervisory experience; or completion of accredited Pharmacy Residency.

Current New York State Pharmacist Registration.
