Overview

Under direct supervision of the Resource Center Director, provides prompt and safe transport of patient throughout the hospital facility and performs all functions related to patient transport including assisting nursing staff with transfer, connection/disconnection of Oxygen under direction of Nursing staff and maintaining and cleaning the stretchers and wheelchairs. Performs related work as required.

Responsibilities

- Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees. Interacts professionally, courteously, and appropriately with patients, visitors and other employees. Behaves in a manner consistent with maintaining and furthering a positive public perception of BronxCare Health System and its employees.

 


- Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department. Contribution and participation includes data collection, analysis, implementation of and compliance with risk management and claims activities, support of and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, consistent adherence to the specific rules and regulations of the BronxCare Health System (a) Safety and Security Policies, (b) Risk Management: Incident and Occurrence Reporting, (c) Infection Control Policies and Procedures and (d) Patient and Customer Service.

 



- Transports patients from units to units and newly admitted and discharged patients.

 


- Assists nursing staff with transferring patients to and from beds, stretchers and chairs.

 


- Responds to transport task with needed transport equipment (wheelchairs or stretcher, Oxygen tank) in a timely manner. Returns wheelchair or stretcher to the storage area after task.

 


- Provides transportation services and assistance during disaster situations.

 


- Transports specimens from patient areas to Laboratories as requested.

 


- Communicates with Resource Center Team Leaders and follows their directions regarding task assignments via INTERSERV Software and Page System. Responds to all pages within established timeframe. Arrive and completes tasks and logs-in and logs-out for each shift through INTERSERV PeopleCom System.

 


- Attends all department/hospital in-service orientation and other meetings as required.

 


- Displays a polite spirit of service attitude towards patients and co-workers. Maintains friendly, efficient and responsive attitude towards patients while performing job duties.

 


- Performs work in accordance with BronxCare Health System and regulatory safety procedures and requirements including NFPA, FPA, OSHA, JCAHO, Federal, NY State and NYC local agencies.

 


- Maintains confidentiality of records and other information, performing all tasks and communications in a confidential and respectful manner.

Qualifications

- One (1) year experience in a hospital setting preferred

 

- High School or GED

 

- Patient transport
