Overview

The COTA provides unique therapeutic services to enhance the goals and objectives of eligible students. The COTA is primarily responsible for implementing the therapeutic program prescribed by the occupational therapist.

Responsibilities

- Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees. Interacts professionally, courteously, and appropriately with patients, visitors and other employees. Behaves in a manner consistent with maintaining and furthering a positive public perception of BronxCare Health System and its employees.

 

 


- Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department. Contribution and participation includes data collection, analysis, implementation of and compliance with risk management and claims activities, support of and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, consistent adherence to the specific rules and regulations of the BronxCare Health System (a) Safety and Security Policies, (b) Risk Management: Incident and Occurrence Reporting, (c) Infection Control Policies and Procedures and (d) Patient and Customer Service.

 

 

 

 

- Provide treatment or assist with treatment as designated by supervising Occupational therapist for patients of all ages. Communicate to supervising occupational therapist patient’s response to treatment. Recommend any modifications to program.

 

 

 

- Document each treatment in the medical record according to established guidelines. Continue treatment of patient a maximum of 2 weeks without a re-evaluation by the supervision of the occupational therapist.

 

 


- Assist and attend in-service program. Participate in any occupational therapy assistant clinical affiliation student program.

 

 


- Attend pertinent institutional meetings, clinics, and rounds.

 

 

 

- Participate in multi-disciplinary care teams.

 

 

 

- Responsible to maintain treatment areas in appropriate order.

 

 

 

 

 Assist in stocking supplies for department.

 

 


- Ability to work together with all members of the department to assure quality of care for our patients.

 

 

 

- Assist in related tasks.

Qualifications

- N.Y.S License and Certification as a COTA

 

 

- Associate Degree
