Overview

Is fully responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of a higher-pressure boiler plant and refrigeration
plant (including all equipment and systems) for shift or watch period. Perform other duties as directed by Director
of Engineering or designee during emergencies or when required.

Responsibilities

 

Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and
other employees. Interacts professionally, courteously, and
appropriately with patients, visitors and other employees. Behaves in a
manner consistent with maintaining and furthering a positive public
perception of BronxCare Health System and its employees.

Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement
activities of the assigned department. Contribution and participation
includes data collection, analysis, implementation of and compliance with
risk management and claims activities, support of and participation in
Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, consistent adherence to
the specific rules and regulations of the BronxCare Health System (a)
Safety and Security Policies, (b) Risk Management: Incident and
Occurrence Reporting, (c) Infection Control Policies and Procedures and
(d) Patient and Customer Service.

Operates one or more high and/or low pressure boilers and related pumps,
blowers, tanks etc. Also, operates auxiliary generator, HVAC equipment,
sump pumps and other plant equipment.

Installs and constructs replacements and improvements as directed.

Controls operation of all boiler and refrigeration plant equipment for
proper generation of steam and chilled water for air conditioning, heating,
cooking and sterilization, for the maintenance of hot/chilled water
temperatures. Makes emergency repairs.

Monitors and controls operation of auxiliary generator, air conditioning and
ventilation equipment; responds to emergency problems with elevators,
electrical systems, flooding, or plant equipment failures. Makes emergency
repairs

When required, participates in major project planning/construction
meetings and recommends constructive ideas.

Keeps the plant operation log for his shift and note any unusual problems
or conditions for the attention of the Lead Engineer and/or Director of
Engineering.

Monitors alarm panels for special systems such as Morgue or Blood Bank
temperatures, medical gas alarms, HVAC and other utility system alarms.
Takes appropriate action in case of failures.

Responds to emergency problems with elevators, electrical systems,
flooding, stoppages or plant equipment failures. Make emergency repairs.

Cleans, Lubricates, maintains and repairs boiler room, piping systems and
other hospital special systems and equipment. Performs other related
duties as directed.

Participates in all hospital Fire and other emergency drills,
performance/quality improvement and other activities as required.

Performs other work as required

Renews engineer’s licenses and other required permits/licenses on a
timely manner and keeps Lead Engineer and/or Director of Engineering
informed.

Qualifications

High School or vocational school or equivalent

New York City High Pressure Boiler

Unlimited Refrigeration Operator License
