Overview

Will practice in the Ob/Gyn Department as a midwife according to the guidelines of the midwifery service of Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center.

Responsibilities

- Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees. Interacts professionally, courteously, and appropriately with patients, visitors and other employees. Behaves in a manner consistent with maintaining and furthering a positive public perception of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Center and its employees.

 


- Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department. Contribution and participation includes data collection, analysis, implementation of and compliance with risk management and claims activities, support of and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, consistent adherence to the specific rules and regulations of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Center (a) Safety and Security Policies, (b) Risk Management: Incident and Occurrence Reporting, (c) Infection Control Policies and Procedures and (d) Patient and Customer Service.

 


- Manages the care of women with essentially normal pregnancies, during childbirth and post-partum, until discharge from the hospital.

 


- Manages the outpatient care of women with essentially normal pregnancy, including post-partum.

 

 

- Manages the outpatient GYN care of women, including contraception.

 


- Participates in precepting and teaching of medical students and midwifery students.

 

 

- Ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patients’ needs.

 


- Knowledge of growth and development.

 


- Understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients.

Qualifications

- Extensive experience in OB nursing, preferred


- Experience in outpatient setting in OB/GYN as a midwife, preferred


- Graduate from an accredited school for Midwifery.

 

- Certification as a Midwife, CNM or CM (Legally Required ) (Policy Requirement)


- Licensed to practice Midwifery in the State of New York (Legally Required) (Policy Requirement)

 

Degree/Diploma:

- Bachelor’s of Science (Required)

 

- Master’s (Required)

 

Major Fields of Study:
