Overview

To provide technical support in the Department of Anesthesiology and assist Anesthesiology staff with equipment, supplies and maintenance related activities.

Responsibilities

Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees.  Interacts professionally, courteously, and appropriately with patients, visitors and other employees.  Behaves in a manner consistent with maintaining and furthering a positive public perception of Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center and its employee.

Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department.  Contribution and participation includes data collection, analysis, implementation of and compliance with risk management and claims activities, support of and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, consistent adherence to the specific rules and regulations of the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center (a) Safety and Security Policies, (b) Risk Management: Incident and Occurrence Reporting, (c) Infection Control Policies and Procedures and (d) Patient and Customer Service.

Operation of verification procedure in Anesthesia machines and monitors.

Check Anesthesia equipment and supplies, gas tanks and drop lines of machine.

Help Anesthesia staff set up for OR’s before each case.

Stock and refill all Anesthesia carts with corresponding supplies.

Ensure adequate supply of adjuvant Anesthesia equipment (blood warmers, convectional warming blankets, syringe pumps, etc.

Keep an inventory of all Anesthesia related medical-surgical supplies and order accordingly.

Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs and replacement of parts in some Anesthesia equipment.  Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering and/or outside contractor for major Anesthesia machines and equipment repairs and keep track of all repairs.

Keep track of all service contracts with outside vendors and coordinate preventive maintenance.

Crisis management of other anesthetic (non-patient related) problems.

Clean all Anesthesia machines and equipment, including fiber optic scope.

Be available to: · replace Oxygen, Nitrous Oxide and medical air gas

                           tanks

  • fix a problem with Anesthesia equipment and

                           machines

  • assist Anesthesiologists with operation of Anesthesia

                           machines and equipment.

Assist the Anesthesiology team with transporting equipment and supplies when they are assigned to provide Anesthesia services outside the OR (ex. MRI, CT scan, MICU, etc.)

Do inventory of all supplies at the end of each fiscal year and reduce/increase supplies accordingly.

Train and supervise Storeroom Worker.

Order parts for medical equipment.

Participate in studies and research projects.

Review equipment malfunctions and recommend corrective action.

Do inventory of all parts for medical equipment and supplies for Anesthesia Department.

 

Qualifications

High School/GED with one (1) year in electronic repair, shop, general sciences, physics and completion of course on electronic equipment repair and/or medical equipment repair in a vocational, trade or armed service school

Certification form American Society of Anesthesia Technologist and Technicians or in the process of certification

HS or GED required
