Perform pre-screening or admissions for the purpose of assessment of the substance abused by the patient, treatment needs, coverage verification and appropriateness of the unit in accordance with hospital standards. Compile psychosocial history on each patient and perform other essential data gathering activities and records accurately in accordance with hospital standards. Maintain adequate patient records of all pertinent involvement with the program in accordance with hospital standards. Evaluate attitudes and degree of motivation for the purpose of discharge planning, follow-up treatment and referral.
Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results as appropriate to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD -10 –PCS codes for billing, internal and external reporting, research and regulatory compliance. Under the direction of the director of Health Information Management, accurately code inpatient conditions and procedures as documented in the medical record using ICD-10 Official Guidelines for Coding. Resolve error reports associated with billing process, identify and report error patterns, and, when necessary, assist in design and implementation of workflow changes to reduce billing errors.

Under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor or designee is responsible for providing social work services in assisting in the resolution of social and emotional problems through appropriate psychosocial assessment and discharge planning for those referred patients on an inpatient medical, surgical, or pediatric unit, or ambulatory care setting.
The Patient Care Liaison works with patients and their families to address concerns or special needs that may arise during their course of treatment within the hospital setting.
